Dada J.P. Vaswani was born on August 2, 1918, at Hyderabad-Sind, in a pious Sindhi family. He was a brilliant student, and so was given a number of double promotions which enabled him to pass the B.S. examination at young age of 17 years.
For his Master's degree, his thesis on The Scattering of X-Rays by Solids was assessed by the scientific genius, Sir C.V. Raman. He also worked as a Fellow in the D.J. Sind College, Karachi. Dada J.P. Vaswani had a bright future before him, but he gave it all up and followed his guru, his saintly uncle - Sadhu T.L. Vaswani, a mystic, philosopher, humanitarian, educationist, apostle of Indian Culture - to bring to waiting, thirsty hearts, the word of God and His Saints.
He became editor of Excelsior magazine, which was his next step in reaching out to people. However, Vaswani's friends objected to his adding a spiritual dimension to the magazine, which spurred the firebrand youth to becoming a one-man show. He thence took it upon himself to write, proof read, print, get advertisements, package and post the magazine all by himself. The publication's popularity grew to the extent that it surpassed the circulation of the leading daily newspaper, The Sind Observer. However, he was to find his vocation only in 1962, when the first only-girls college, St. Mira's College, was established. He was honorary principal of the institution for 16 years. The college which started out with just 62 students has since grown to accomodate 5000 students today. Till date he continues to be a guide and benefactor of the college.
He is the author of about 30 books in English and several more in Sindhi. His books, From Hell to Heaven and Daily Appointment with God, have run into several editions. Some of his books have been translated into Marathi, Hindi, Spanish, Indonesian etc. His simple yet profound, straightforward style is too irresistible to be passed by without being caught by its spell.
Dada J.P. Vaswani is an inspired speaker. His words emerge spontaneously from the heart which is full of the love of God. One distinguishing feature of his discourses which attracts the people is the practicability of the subjects, and the most straightforward manner he employs to put across the deepest of philosophies. His simple language, his profound thoughts, his universal outlook, his captivating voice, all garnished with delightful anecdotes and instances from the lives of the saints and the great ones of East and West, keep the audience transfixed and makes them feel that they were in some other world altogether. His words find a home in every heart because they were backed by the witness of his life and many are heard exclaiming that they felt Dada J.P. Vaswani's message was specially meant for them in their particular state of being.
His life is moulded and modelled according to the Bhagavad Gita and the Sermon on the Mount. He is in the world, but is not worldly. With eyes full of tenderness, he moves amongst and mingles with men and women and soothes their sorrowing hearts with the words - All is well! All was well! All will be well both now and a hundred years hence!
